The People
In the 19th century, Emile-Paul Duménil, the founder, owned a grocery and a café in Chigny-Les-Roses as well as tending vines. Little did he know his champagne house would still be prospering over 140 years later. Today, Frédérique Poret, his great granddaughter, is the creative inspiration behind the blend. Her husband, Hugues, is from a long line of winemakers in the nearby village of Sacy. Working meticulously in the vineyards, he aims for each plot of vines to reveal its own individual character. Both of them play an equal part in making of Champagne Dumenil.

The Vineyards
The 8 hectares of vines are all classified as Premier Cru and planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The vines lie on a deep layer of chalk covered by a thin layer of soil in La Grande Montagne de Reims. In la Petite Montagne, the soil is made of sand and clay, perfect for growing Pinot Meunier.
Manual labour is favoured in order to retain the unique nature of the soil, and they use horses to plough in their oldest vineyards. Yields are carefully controlled to achieve optimum sugar concentration and exceptional depth of aroma.
The Wines
Only the first and best juice is used, and all bottles are matured in the cellars for a minimum of three years and disgorged at least four months before release. All Champagnes are classified as Premier Cru.
