About the producer
About the producer: Château Beau-Séjour Bécot
The property was bought in 1969 by Michel Bécot, son of a long family of winemakers. Today his sons, Dominique in the vineyard and Gerard in the cellar, are in charge of the domaine, and were helped by famous consultant Michel Rolland. Although the wines have been seriously impressive since the mid 1980’s, the estate lost its 1er Grand Cru Classé status in 1985, when a some non 1er grand cru vineyards were added to the property. This decision was reversed in 1996 and today Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is one of the leading 1er Grand Cru Classé ‘B’ properties. View our selection.
Vineyard and Winemaking
The twenty hectares of vine are planted with 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. They pick the fruit very ripe, use plenty of new oak (wines are matured 18 to 20 months in 50 to 70% new oak) and bottle without any additions. This makes the house style very opulent yet elegant and year after year their wines have been well received with critics.
Wines Produced
Château Beau-Séjour Bécot (grand vin) and Tournelles de Beau-Séjour Bécot (second wine).
