Davy’s Tastings offer unique opportunities to sample wines from the world’s great wine producing regions and to taste under expert guidance in a convivial atmosphere. For this tasting, we are delighted to welcome Denise Adams, owner if the fantastic Château for a great evening of and fine food.
Château Fonplégade is one of the most beautiful and exquisite in St-Emilion, the name Fonplegade literally means the “fountain of plenty”. The vines have thrived at this exceptional site, perched on the limestone plateau that is home to Saint-Emilion’s finest vineyards, since the late 1500s. The wine is made from the estate’s oldest vines, meticulously hand-farmed using organic and biodynamic practices to bring out the finest quality in each cluster. The Château is now owned by Denise and Stephen Adams who acquired Fonplégade in 2004. They have spent the last 15 years tirelessly revitalizing the vineyards, renovating the cellar and lovingly restoring the château. It is now one of the best estates in Saint-Émilion.
After a Champagne reception, Denise will talk us through the history of the winery and winemaking in Saint-Emilion. We’ll taste some of the estate’s finest vintages and we’ll have an opportunity to look at the second wine, ‘Fleur de Fonplégade’ and explore how the grand vin influences its earlier drinking sibling. The tasting is followed by a specially prepared supper, with a wine paired with each course and Denise on hand to answer any questions.
