Davy’s Wine School tasting classes are a fun and informative way to learn professional tasting technique and explore wine regions and styles under expert guidance. Every month the host will select a different variety of wines to taste so there is always something new to explore.
This month we will be focusing on Tuscany. The rich history of winemaking dating back to the Ancient Etruscan’s ruling in eighth century B.C. and has long held a reputation for producing some of Italy’s finest wines. Here, the grape Sangiovese is king of the reds, dominating production from well-known regions such as Chianti, Montalcino and Bolgheri. The whites and rosés play a lesser role in terms of volume made, but those producers that specialise make outstanding wines, offering excellent quality and value. Whites range from the native grape variety Vermentino to better-known international grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc – rosés often fall to the individual choice of the winemaker and their varietal plantings.
The host will welcome you with an aperitif then guide you through three reds which are sourced from our exclusive Chianti producer Nardi Viticoltori, one of the youngest and smallest family-run wineries in the region, located in the cooler area of Castellina, Chianti Classico. Two elegant and lifted whites plus a flavoursome rose complement the range, sourced exclusively from boutique and sustainable winery Tenuta Montauto, located in the coastal Maremma region, south west of Tuscany.
We’ll look at the first wine in detail using professional wine tasting technique before tasting a further five tasting samples together. By the end of the session you should be able to taste and assess a wine like a pro! We hope you’ll get to know your fellow tasters and enjoy the session whilst you learn.
Ticket price includes an aperitif followed by a tutored tasting of six wines and a Davy’s gift bag. Please note, seating at tasting events may be at communal tables.
