Join us on Tuesday 21st May for a fantastic Cairanne & Gigondas Rhône Tasting Masterclass & Dinner with special guest Henri-Claude Amadieu, owner & wine grower of Domaine Les Hautes Cances & Pierre Amadieu. There isn’t a more fitting venue for this event to take place than The Boot & Flogger, the original Davy’s Wine Bar, just a short walk from London Bridge Station.
The history of Domaine Pierre Amadieu dates back to 1929 when Henri-Claude’s grandfather, Pierre Amadieu purchased 7 hectares of vine in Gigondas and founded his domain. For almost 40 years he developed and grew the reputation of the appellation. With years going by, it has been passed from generation to generation and now, third generation Henri-Claude has taken the reigns. Domaine Pierre Amadieu has grown over time to some 140 hectares, making it the largest, private, family-owned vineyard in Gigondas. In 2019 the Amadieu family purchased Domaine Les Hautes Cances in Cairanne, a vineyard which was established in the 1890’s. The family have continued to grow the winery with commitment, further investment, and sustainable winemaking techniques.
The vineyards of Domaine Les Hauts Cances are located in Cairanne, in the southern Rhône valley. The wines of Cairanne represent some of the best values available in France, having only recently acquired their ‘Cru’ status, putting them alongside their more famous neighbours of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. Today, in the words of Will Lyons of the Sunday Times, the Domaine les Hautes Cances wines are
‘A real find from the Cairanne… well worth splashing out a little more on.’
Will Lyons, The Sunday Times
We will taste an excellent range of wines throughout the evening, beginning with a refreshing aperitif of the elegant and harmonious Cairanne Blanc, before moving onto the delicious spicy reds of both Cairanne and Gigondas of which the region’s wines are famous for.
The tasting will continue with a four course dinner with wine pairings and Henri-Claude on hand throughout the evening to answer any questions that you may have.
