2019 Château de Fonbel, Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion – En Primeur is now available.
The 16-hectare Ch. de Fonbel vineyard is located close to those surrounding Ch. Ausone and is planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 3% Carmenere, with vines averaging 25 years of age. This planting represents the largest percentage of Carmenere on the Right Bank – combined with the high percentage of Petit Verdot, the de Fonbel style is beautifully unique and makes for wonderful drinking on release and over the next ten years.
85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Carmenère. Barrel sample. Fresh fruit aroma and flavour with a savoury edge. Palate lively, juicy, with light, chalky tannins. Drink 2023 – 2030 – James Lawther, MW
