    Product description

Six generations of Lurtons have been making wine at Château Reynier, a fortified farmhouse dating back to the 15th century, which was used as a stopover on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route. This stunning property is surrounded by 28 hectares of gentle slopes on the hillsides of Entre-Deux-Mers, across the river from Saint-Émilion. Since 1996, it is Oenologist Marc Lurton, with the help of his wife Agnès, who has been running the estate. Their daughter Pauline joined them in 2019. The East India Club were the first club to adopt Château Reynier as their house claret back in 1978. Over the period, tastes have changed. The introduction at house functions of the Cuvée Héritage in 2010 marked a turning point. Made from selected parcels aged in new oak barrels, the wine proved to be so much more complex and concentrated that it wasn’t long before members asked for it to become available in the dining room. Château Reynier is now visible throughout clubland and the wine committee decided that it was time to upgrade to a truly bespoke Club Claret. As the club celebrates its 175th Anniversary, a new blend of our historic Club Claret together with 25% of Cuvée Héritage will be launched in January 2024. This new blend, still composed of 50% cabernet sauvignon and 50% merlot, is matured in French and American oak barrels in a striking cellar dug into a seam of limestone under the vineyard. Its profile is of wild berry fruit lifted by zingy cranberry and fresh cassis leaf. The wine, with enhance fruit intensity, is structured with firm, yet soft tannins, and a thirst-quenching quality of acidity. It is a perfect accompaniment to a juicy slice of roast beef.
