Château Beychevelle is a 4eme Grand cru Classe located south of St Julien. The iconic label comes from its ownership by the Duc d’Eperon who was the Admiral of France in the 16th century. The wines produced are generous, deeis now releasedp and well-balanced with a silky texture and are matured in oak barrels (50-60% new) for 18 months.
Beautifully rich depth to the nose, dark cherry, plum and cassis, floral tone here too. Well-structured wine with wonderfully integrated tannins, though has a wonderful coolness to elegant blue and bramble fruit. Cedar and chocolate combined with rich fruit here make for a ripe yet pure and powerful wine with a very persistent finish. Is this the star of St. Julien in 2018? – 18/ 20, Davy’s Wine Merchants
Offered for sale ‘En Primeur’ under bond. Price shown is per case (6x75cl bottles) and excludes UK duty and VAT which will be charged at the prevailing rate when the wine is released from bond. Onward delivery from bond charges are not included, free delivery on orders above £100 does not apply. Reward Card points are not accruable or redeemable on ‘En Primeur’ or In Bond sales.
The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Beychevelle wafts sensuously from the glass with fragrant Black Forest cake, potpourri, star anise and black tea scents over a core of black raspberries, warm blackcurrants and kirsch with touches of fallen leaves and lavender. Full-bodied and packed with fragrant red and black fruit layers, it has a firm, velvety texture and fantastic freshness lifting the very long, perfumed finish. Beautiful! Anticipated time in barrel is 18 months, 60% new and 40% second fill. The tentative blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.- 95 pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate
