    Product description

En Primeur Château Lafite Rothschild will be available for delivery or storage once it lands in the UK, usually two years following the en primeur offer.

Situated in the wine-producing village of Pauillac in the Médoc region to the northwest of Bordeaux, the estate was the property of Gombaud de Lafite in 1234. In the 17th century, the property of Château Lafite was purchased by the Ségur family. Although vines almost certainly already existed on the site, Jacques de Ségur planted the majority of the vineyard in the 1680s. The iconic Château Lafite was classified as a first growth in 1855 and has been in the Rothschild family since 1868. Today, Lafite is headed up by Saskia de Rothschild, daughter of long-time steward Baron Eric de Rothschild.
The property is located at the northern tip of Pauillac. There are two areas of the vineyard that are particularly notable: the gravel plateau, which is the heart of the grand vin; and the Plateau de Carruades, from which Lafite’s second wine takes its name. The vineyard is planted mostly to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, along with 25% Merlot (25%), 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. A new cellar was completed in time for the 2011 harvest, with a combination of stainless steel and concrete tanks of varying sizes. The barrels come from Lafite’s own cooperage, located not far from the property. In addition to its 110 hectares of vines, the estate has 300 hectares of woods and marshes. The team consider this to be an integral part of the ecosystem.

En Primeur pricing is per case as specified and excludes UK duty and VAT, which will be charged at the prevailing rate when the wine is released from bond for delivery. Bonded storage is available. Onward delivery or transfer is not included and can be quoted for on request. Free delivery on orders over £100 does not apply to bonded or en primeur wines.
