With such illustrious neighbours and an ambition backed by funding, along with the knowledge and experience of Jacky Lorenzetti and Emmanuel Cruse, the potential here is unquestionable. The aim, we’re told by Cruse, is to put Pedesclaux up there as the best of the 5th Growths; in a classé that boasts Pontet Canet, Lynch Bages and Grand Puy Lacoste as its members. Pédesclaux produces three wines from their 46 hectares, producing a total of around 8,000 cases per annum, from 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Soils here are a mix of clay, which provides power, and gravel, that fosters the wine’s elegance.
This is very structured with a deep, dark palate, showing tightness and reserve. Full-bodied, chewy and linear. A very classic Pédesclaux with 72% cabernet sauvignon, which is one of the highest percentages ever. – 94-95 Points, James Suckling
