Product description
La Brune (French for ‘Brunette’) was created when multi-award winning winemaker, Nico Grobler, visited Burgundy and fell in love with Burgundian winemaking and the expression of their wines. Bringing this back to South African soil, his wines focus on finesse, elegance and purity of fruit.
La Brune has access to some of the highest elevated Chardonnay vineyards in South Africa. 100% whole bunch. 50% fermented in stainless steel, 50% in barrel. Ageing 14 months in untoasted 500L barrels, 30% new. Lemon, flint and a touch of nutmeg on the nose – beautifully focused. Mouth-filling citrus, orange and lemon zest, coconut and almond – such verve which really carries on the finish. An outstanding Chardonnay.

The 2022 Chardonnay is, for want of a better word, but one that is opposite, absolutely delicious. The very well-defined nose has white peach, French patisserie and light meringue aromas. The palate has a slightly waxy texture with good extract, slightly pithy, but it retains superb delineation and precision. I am intrigued to see how this ages in bottle, yet it is damn near impossible to resist reaching for that corkscrew. Drinking Window 2024 - 2040.
