About the producer: Tenuta dell’Ornellaia
First vines at Tenuta dell’ Ornellaia were planted in 1982 on the foothills around Bolgheri. Facing the Mediterranean coast, this estate enjoys maritime breeze that cool down the vineyards, and a myriad of individual parcels well suited for the growth of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. They believe wines should truly express their terroir and their vintage and are obsessed with optimum harvest time in order to achieve full ripeness for both sugar and tannins. As a result, their wines have become a favourite amongst wine lovers. View our selection.
Vineyard and Winemaking
The 97 hectares of vines are split in two neighbouring locations on the original property and at “Bellaria”, a newly developed area northeast of Bolgheri. The estate is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Grapes are very carefully selected and each plot is fermented separately. The first wine is usually aged for 12 months in French oak barrel.
