    Product description

Located in the most northern part of the Medoc, Chateau Calon-Ségur is a third growth which was owned by the Marquis de Ségur who commissioned the heart on the label to reflect his affection for Calon, even though he owned Lafite and Latour at the time. It is a wonderful wine that age long and gracefully in true St Estephe style.

Le Marquis de Calon Segur is the second wine of the estate. Mainly made with Merlot and aged for 17 months in oak barrels (1/3 new). Generous and juicy aromas of black currant with hints of leather and cedar. Deep and warm on the palate with a velvety texture, silky tannins and a vibrant acidity. Can be enjoyed in its youth.

    About the producer: Château Calon-Ségur

Wine growing at Château Calon-Ségur can be traced back to the 12th Century, named Calon at the time. Located in the most northern part of the Medoc this 3ème cru classé was owned by the Gasqueton family until only recently. It was the Marquis de Ségur who commissioned the heart on the label to reflect his affection for Calon, even though he owned Lafite and Latour at the time. The domaine was sold in 2012 to the Suravenir company. Today they are leading an extensive programme of renovation for both vineyards and buildings and they produce wonderful wines that age long and gracefully in a true St Estephe style.  View our selection.

    Vineyard and Winemaking

The fifty-five hectares of vineyards are one single block adjacent to the village of Saint-Estèphe and completely surrounded by a stone wall. Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone of Calon Ségur, making over three-quarters of the blend, and in great years its proportion can be as high as 90%. After fermentation wines are aged in new oak barrels for 18 to 20 months.

    Wines Produced

Château Calon Ségur (grand vin), Marquis de Calon (second vin) with 75% Merlot in the blend and Château Capbern.
