On Tuesday 7th November we’re delighted to welcome Miguel Merino (Jnr) to London to host the launch of the latest vintages from their incredible range, alongside a carefully paired dinner at the beautiful Royal Over-Seas League, tucked away off St James’s St, this is the perfect location for this special event.
Bodega Miguel Merino, ranked among the 18 ‘First Growth’ Rioja producers by Tim Atkin MW, is one of the smallest family run cellars of DOC Rioja. It was founded in 1994 by Miguel Merino Snr, who after many years exporting Spanish wines throughout the world made true his dream of having a small ‘bodega’ to make the best possible wines from small plots which had often been overlooked. Miguel Snr established his winery in Briones, one of the most beautiful villages in Rioja and most importantly one of the few areas in Rioja Alta that kept old vineyards. The bodega’s reputation has soared in recent years under the stewardship of Miguel’s son (also Miguel), which has been recently endorsed by the elevation to ‘Rioja First Growth’ in Tim Atkin’s annual classification.
Miguel Jnr & his wife Erika now run the winery and oversee the viticulture and winemaking process. The main focus is to emphasise the quality of their stunning wines and continue to refine their style. The Bodega has gone from strength to strength and is continuing to receive praise from the very best wine critics and win many highly regarded awards.
We will start the evening with 2021 Rioja Blanco as an aperitif. Miguel will then talk us through the history of the bodega and the methods behind these amazing wines. We’ll then taste through some Miguels finest wines, among them are the esteemed 2020 La Loma as well as the stunning 2020 La Insula . We will taste through these and enjoy a specially matched and seasonal dinner with wine pairings.
