A delightful Tuscan dry sparkling white using the traditional method, from organically produced Sangiovese. For this cuvee Vini Montauto uses cold fermentation technique to enhance aromas and elegance alongside the traditional sparkling method to add complexity and body to the wine. Very fresh on the nose with hints of red berry fruit and yeast. The palate is delicate and crisp with mineral falvours and good acidity. Delicate and fresh, this is a refined fizz with a difference.

Italian sparkling white wine from Maremma in Tuscany Italy, made with Sangiovese.
Vini Montauto is located in one of the most wild and unspoiled corners of Tuscany’s Maremma. Owner Riccardo Lepri took over the estate after his grandfather Enos in 2001. Working alongside winemaker Fabrizio Moltard, they selected grapes that gave the best results on the land and decided to focus mainly on producing white wines, unusual for the region. Following an organic approach they make delicate wines with concentrated flavours that started to generate interest amongst critics. The hare present on the label is related to Riccardo’s surname Lepri, meaning hare in Italian. View our selection.
Located 15 km away from the coast, the estate enjoys a micro climate characterized by large variation of temperature between day and night, ideal for making wine. Out of the 200ha property, 14 are planted with 60% white and 40% red grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, Malvasia, Grechetto for whites and Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Merlot for reds. Only their Pinot Noir is aged in oak for 10 to 12 months.
They produce three whites; Enos 1, Gessaia and Montauto Bianco, and two red wines Montauto Rosso and Pinot Nero. They also recently started to produce a rosé and a sparkling wine.
