Sheltered by the Vosges Mountains, vineyards are mainly planted on the foothills of the slopes which are well exposed to the sun making this a perfect location for winemaking. The unique micro climate is ideal for slow ripening grape varieties and Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris all thrive here producing beautiful, aromatic and spicy wines – the best also revealing an outstanding minerality. Due to its border and history with Germany the appellation rules are somewhat different to the rest of France and are based on the grape variety rather than the location or village the wine is sourced from.
