En Primeur Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan, will be available for delivery or storage once it lands in the UK, usually two years following the en primeur offer.
A family Domaine, owned and managed by Olivier Bernard, the last thirty years have been of constant reinvestment in all aspects of the Chateau, vineyards and Cellars with profound success. Domaine de Chevalier covers a hundred hectares, 45 of which are under vine on ideal gravelly soils typical for the region of Pessac Leognan, formerly known as the ‘Graves’, just south east of the City of Bordeaux . 40 hectares are devoted to red wine split 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. 5 are planted with white varieties split 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon. The vineyard management revolves around sustainable practices and today 30 hectares of the vines are farmed biodynamically.
The red wines are fermented in stainless steel vats, then matured in 50% new and 50% one and two-year-old barrels for 18 months prior to bottling. The whites are fermented 30% in new oak barrels, the remainder in vats, blending takes place January after the vintage and then the wine is aged on lees before being racked for a second winter in barrels or vats. Production is on average a mere 6,500 cases (12) of the Grand Vin and 1,000 cases of the white.
