Product description
Chardonnay clone 1066, grown in the Northburn vineyard, benefits from elevated glacial terraces and reflective schist soils. These promote even ripening and lend the wine its distinct mineral freshness. Hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, the juice undergoes barrel fermentation and extended lees stirring over 10 months to enhance mid-palate texture and complexity. Focused and intense, this Chardonnay layers ripe tropical fruits, vanilla, and grapefruit peel over a flinty, mineral core. Notes of toasted oak and hazelnut add depth and richness.
The 2020 Chardonnay Northburn Central Otago from Te Kano is not short on concentration. It’s a creamy yet tangy expression with a sense of firmness throughout its core, propelling the wine forward. You can expect a line of lemony acidity that pierces the smooth, nectarine-filled core, and a subtle nutty character from barrel fermentation and maturation on lees. Well constructed. 2022 – 2030
