Chile benefits from the most untroubled vineyards on the planet and is considered by many to be a viticultural paradise. Phylloxera devastated most vineyards across the world in the late 19th century but is almost unknown in Chile because of the country’s relatively isolated position. As the longest country in the world, spanning from the Atacama desert in the north to the cool region of Biobío in the south, Chile has an exceptionally broad range of viticultural sites. Maipo, Curico and Colchagua, alongside Casablanca and San Antonio, are home to arguably some of the best value wines in the world. International grape varieties thrive, producing wines with great purity of fruit and, with new vineyards being established all the time, the outlook for Chilean wine is very promising. Read more…
