2017 Montauto Ciliegiolo, Maremma

Owner Riccardo Lepri took over the estate after his grandfather Enos in 2001. Alongside winemaker Fabrizio Moltard, they selected the most suited grapes for the land. Following an organic approach they make delicate wines with concentrated flavours that started to generate interest amongst critics.

30% of the wine is aged in large wooden barrel for about 10 months. Aromas of cherry fruits with hints of violet and tobacco. Medium bodied with a firm acidity and a good tannic structure.

2017 Montauto Bianco, Maremma

Vermentino’s floral flavours, with its classic herbal notes, are mixing well with Malvasia’s fruity character. With a hint of minerality and crisp acidity, this is a great value white wine, elegant and complex in equal measure.

2018 Montauto Staccione Rosato, Maremma

Following an organic approach they make wines with concentrated flavours that started to generate interest amongst critics.

Grapes are soflty crushed so the juice briefly macerates with the skins. Intense nose with red berry fruits and hints of rose petal. Delicate and refreshing on the palate with a fruity finish.

BIN END Montauto Metodo Classico Brut nv, Maremma

A delightful Tuscan dry sparkling white using the traditional method, from organically produced Sangiovese. For this cuvee Vini Montauto uses cold fermentation technique to enhance aromas and elegance alongside the traditional sparkling method to add complexity and body to the wine. Very fresh on the nose with hints of red berry fruit and yeast. The palate is delicate and crisp with mineral falvours and good acidity. Delicate and fresh, this is a refined fizz with a difference.

2017 Montauto Pinot Nero, Maremma

Aged for 14 months in oak barrels (1/3 new). Intense aromas of red berry fruits with notes of balsamic and spices. Elegant on the palate with spicy flavours and good concentration of fruits and smooth tannins.

Montauto Rosso 2015, Maremma SOLD OUT

An elegant wine with aromas of cherry and dark berries with hint of violets. Good structure with firm tannins and a good acidity that keep the palate fresh. An alternative to classic claret with your roast.

2016 Montauto Gessaia, Maremma

Alongside winemaker Fabrizio Moltard, they decided to focus on producing mainly white wines, unusual for Tuscany’s up and coming Maremma region. Following an organic approach they make wines with concentrated flavours that started to generate interest amongst critics.

The name ‘Gessaia’ refer to the chalky subsoil which gives some smoky minerality to this wine. Bright, with a straw-yellow colour and greenish shimmers. The nose is intense and long lasting and delivers elderberry and citrus notes as well as white pulp fruits and smoky minerality. Dry and fresh on the palate, this is a delicate medium-bodied with a good balance. DWM, April 2018

Alongside winemaker Fabrizio Moltard, they decided to focus on producing mainly white wines, unusual for Tuscany’s up and coming Maremma region. Following an organic approach they make wines with concentrated flavours that started to generate interest amongst critics.

Enos is their top cuvée and sourced from at least 35 years old vines. Fine and intense aromas of fresh citrus peel, white pulp fruits, aromatic herbs and a delicate floral bouquet. This is a dry fresh wine with a delicate body perfectly balanced. Long with complexity it can age for a few years. Received 16pts from Jancis Robinson at our fine wine tasting in November 2018.
