Bordeaux
The biggest source of fine French wine in the world, Bordeaux became famous during the Paris’ universal exposition in 1855 while promoting its Grand Crus Classé. Well-known châteaux such as Palmer, Margaux and Haut-Brion are highly regarded by wine lovers, however just 5% of the total vineyard area is devoted to the production of top flight ‘classified growth’. A broad range of wines including white wine, rosé and sweet wines are made here but ‘Clarets’ are by far the most popular. Mainly a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot they offer wines from easy drinking to complex, age-worthy and food friendly styles, some of the best examples of which are found in the Médoc, Graves, St Emilion and Pomerol. Lesser known French wine appellations such as Fronsac, Cotes de Blaye and Entre deux Mers offer great value and are well worth seeking out. Read more…
